Thank you for an incredible Summer 2026!

Our 14th season of Lake Hauns Junior Sailing has officially concluded, and we are so grateful to the campers, families, volunteers, and supporters who helped make this summer such a success. Watching so many young sailors gain confidence, develop new skills, and discover a love for sailing made this an unforgettable season.

Registration for Summer 2027 is expected to open in March 2027. We encourage interested families to check back here and follow us on Facebook for announcements, program updates, and registration information.

We can't wait to welcome new sailors back to the lake next summer!

Lake Hauns Junior Sailing Summer 2027

Lake Hauns Junior Sailing is thrilled to announce that for the 15th consecutive year, we are offering a unique opportunity for free beginner sailing classes for Hampton Cove & Big Cove area students in rising 6th to 8th grades. Come and experience a chance to learn a new skill and experience the joys of sailing!

Camp is offered in four 1-week-long classes:
Week 1: June 1st - 4th* (4-day session to accommodate for Memorial Day)

Week 2: June 7th - 11th

Week 3: June 14th - 18th

Week 4: June 21st - 25th

Each class is limited to five students per week, for a total of 20 students.

Instruction will include theory and practice: Capsize Drill, β€œClose Hauled,” β€œTacking,” β€œReaching,” β€œRunning,” and Boating Safety, sailing an β€œOpen Skiff” 9-foot, youth-friendly sailboat. By the end of the week, the objective is to sail expediently and competitively around a triangular course of marker buoys set on Lake Hauns. A β€œRace Day” will be held on the final day of camp.

All classes run 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 3016 Willow Trace Circle, in the Mallard’s Landing subdivision at the eastern end of Lake Hauns in Hampton Cove. This afternoon schedule allows for the best β€œweather window” for local katabatic winds. Members of the Hampton Cove Herons and Lake Guntersville Junior Sailing Team will be in attendance to provide additional support.

Students showing the requisite aptitude and interest will be encouraged to apply for an advanced course in July, which will lead to potential membership in the Hampton Cove Herons race team [also free-of-charge to HCMS Students], which will compete at regional regattas from mid-July to the end of October and Spring 2028.

Sailing is a fantastic sport that promotes good spatial skills and is helpful in geometry, too!

Since only a maximum of 24 places are available, registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Please complete the online registration form below. Please direct all questions to Jason Church at sailingdirector@lakeguntersvillejuniorsailing.org.
