The Lake Guntersville Youth Racing Team is a dynamic group of junior and senior high school sailors dedicated to mastering the art of competitive sailing. While many train in the C420 and Open Skiff, our sailors may race a variety of boats—from Open Skiffs to larger dinghies—reflecting their growing skill and passion for the sport. They compete throughout the Southeast, from the Atlantic coast of Florida to the Gulf of Mexico and Southern river regattas, proudly representing North Alabama with teamwork, discipline, and enthusiasm. Year-round practices on beautiful Lake Guntersville emphasize sportsmanship, strategy, and personal growth—values that extend far beyond the water.
Open Skiff sailing is a dynamic and exciting way for young people to experience the thrill of high-performance sailing while building confidence and friendships on the water. Designed especially for youth, the Open Skiff is an ideal entry point for older kids and middle schoolers who are ready for independence but still want a fun, forgiving boat to learn in. Its open cockpit and lightweight design make it easy to handle, while its speed and responsiveness keep sailors engaged and challenged. For parents, it’s the perfect next step after beginner programs—safe, social, and endlessly fun, helping kids develop balance, focus, and a lifelong love of sailing.
